5 Relationship Traps that Cause Painful Problems for Couples

What are the reasons that causes problems among couples?

The last thing anyone ever expects to go through when they fall in love is tough times.  But the simple fact is that romantic relationships aren’t walks in the park.  As much as there are moments when the chemistry is heavenly, life’s realities can – and will – start to impose a heavy burden from time to time. Relationship Expert Stefan James advises that “A great relationship that stands the test of time takes effort and work… The fairy-tale notion that ‘love conquers all’ is a nice way of thinking. However, at the end of the day, love is a choice. It is an unconditional commitment that you are willing to show up for an imperfect person.”

Here are a few common pitfalls that typically takedown strong relationships:

1) Immature Behaviour

Human beings are meant to grow and evolve as we age.  This growth shouldn’t just be physical.  It should be emotional and spiritual as well.  Nobody’s saying it’s wrong to have unique quirks or childlike wonder. But it’s generally healthier for a relationship when partners have tastes and interests which are predominantly age-appropriate.

2) Substance Abuse

If one or both partners in a relationship becomes entangled in addiction, it’s almost impossible to build a sustainable life together.  Addiction robs people of both resources, and the sheer will to desire anything beyond intoxication.  Life shouldn’t be governed by escape.  It should be driven by ambition.

3) Infidelity

Cheating is probably the number-one reason why couples get torn apart.  The betrayal and humiliation that comes with cheating is difficult to forgive.  It shatters trust, and forces couples to rebuild the relationship all over again from scratch.

4) Bad Friends

Even though couples might want to build a happy life together, social circles can sometimes get in the way of it all.  Hanging out with hostile friends, or even hostile family members, can plant seeds of doubt in a relationship.  It takes a lot of dedication to overcome the influence of people who don’t mean well for the relationship.

5) Workaholic Tendencies

Work is an important part of everyone’s life.  But it’s also important to develop a healthy work-life balance with respect to relationships.  If couples aren’t careful, working too much can end up stealing every opportunity they have to enjoy one another.

Conclusion

True love is an evolving experience for both partners.  The more you get to know each other, the more you’ll encounter problems which challenge the strength of your relationship.  Difficult circumstances are certainly uncomfortable, but they shouldn’t be allowed to shake your faith in the relationship.  Not as long as happily ever after exists anywhere in your heart’s desires.
