5 Life-Saving Tactics to Help Feed Your Kids if They’re Picky Eaters

How to feed a picky eater toddler?

One of the most nagging problems that parents have to deal with every now and then is a picky eater.  There’s always that one child who for some reason, suddenly decides they have a problem with home-cooked food.  No matter how much time and work went into preparing it. The Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research advises that “If your child isn't hungry, don't force a meal or snack. Likewise, don't bribe or force your child to eat certain foods or clean their plate... your child might come to associate mealtime with anxiety and frustration or become less sensitive to his or her own hunger and fullness cues.”

Here are a few remedies which can broaden your kids’ appetites without pulling any teeth:

1) Have a Family Mealtime

Eating together is a very communal experience.  It allows people to bond and adapt to one another’s appetites.  If you eat with your kids, they will learn to eat what you eat, and practice how you eat.

2) Use Culinary Disguises

Getting kids to eat vegetables can be a nightmare.  But if you care about their health, you have to feed them a balanced diet even if they object.  Use clever tricks like hiding vegetables in smoothies or preparing fruit-based desserts.

3) Use a Variety of Recipes

If you cook food the same way for every meal, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if kids get picky about your food.  Invest in some cookbooks so that you can learn new ways to prepare staple ingredients.

4) Teach Them How to Cook

Kids take food for granted when they don’t really understand what goes into making it.  If your children are old enough, introduce them to the kitchen and teach them how to make their own meals.  This will inspire a newfound appreciation for nutrition.

5) Set the Tone

The #1 role model in a household should be the parents.  If you want your kids to like something, set a good example so that they can build appropriate tastes.  Teach them to respect the nutritional value of food even if they don’t necessarily like how it tastes.

Conclusion

Poor eating habits amongst skids and can be very worrisome for parents.  Especially if kids maintain these habits for long periods of time.  The more time kids spend being picky eaters, the closer they get to experiencing malnourishment or even illness.  No matter what it takes, always use creativity as a parent to ensure that your kids are well fed.  Even if it means thinking outside the box, see to it that your children enjoy a balanced diet.  If you like what you just read from our blog, you’ll love the various informative courses, workshops and events listed on our websites and social media.
