4 Creative Ways to Get Some Alone-Time from the Kids

Creative ways to get more alone time while home with your kids

If there’s one experience that families have in common thanks to the pandemic, it’s more time spent together.  Since kids haven’t been able to go to school, parents have no choice but to babysit. Every minute, of every day, of every week.  While there’s nothing wrong with spending quality time together as a family, it can get overwhelming for parents to be around the kids nonstop. Parenting Expert Corey Kagan Whelan advises that “Life may feel like a chaotic madhouse, but the two of you are in it together. Finding time to reconnect away from the kids can help to remind you of why you wanted to share your lives together… couples need and deserve an oasis of alone time to stay connected to each other.”

Here are a few tips on how to get some alone time from the kids, without going on some elaborate vacation:

1) Exhaust the Kids

Depending on how old your kids are, encouraging them to have some vigorous play-time will inevitably lead to some napping.  Use those naps to put your feet up and relax together.

2) Alternate on the Babysitting

If you typically watch the kids simultaneously, then both of you are probably going to get tired at the same time as well.  Babysit the kids in shifts so that one of you can rest, while the other is on watch-duty.

3) Wake Up Earlier/Sleep Later

Kids have a much narrower sleeping cycle than adults.  By waking up an hour earlier than the kids, or sleeping an hour later, the two of you can squeeze in a child-free window of time to be together.

4) Take Your Time Prepping in the Morning

From the moment you get out of bed, make your early morning routine as luxurious as possible.  Avoid rushing into the hustle and bustle of the day so that you can at least have an interlude of tranquility.

Conclusion

Even if you don’t mind taking care of the kids 24/7, don’t forget to carve out a little quiet time to share with your spouse.  Taking a break together can help you unwind and reset.  Which is a healthy thing considering how stressful life during the pandemic is.  If you like what you just read from our blog, you’ll love the various informative courses, workshops and events listed on our websites and social media.
