3 Movies/Documentaries to Learn More About Business

Did you know that there are an infinite number of ways to learn how to do well in business?  Most people trust conventional approaches like books and courses.  And there’s nothing wrong with that at all.  But sometimes movies can be a great resource that opens people’s eyes to the realities of business.  Movies might be unorthodox, but they tell stories in a captivating and memorable way.  The right movie, at the right time, can teach you unforgettable lessons about business.

Movie-Magic has Some Golden Nuggets

Writer Jacek Grebski suggests that, “Between documentaries and fictional films, there’s a lot you can learn about the plight of entrepreneurs from the comfort of your couch. Whether you’re just starting out on your business venture, or you’ve been at it for years, you can glean some powerful insights from the big-screen.”

Here are a few intriguing business movies to add to your playlist, if you haven’t seen them already:

1) “The Pursuit of Happyness” (2006), Directed by Gabriele Muccino

Starring legendary Hollywood icon Will Smith, this film (based on a true story) is a showcase of the resilience of the human spirit.  It’s a reminder of how powerful determination and willpower is, especially in the face of hardship.

2) “Moneyball,” (2011), Directed by Bennett Miller

Brad Pitt pioneers an incredible cast in this film (based on a true story) which depicts the value of being strategic in business.  It tells a story that emphasizes how much of a difference organized planning can make, in competitive situations.

3) “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room,” (2005), Directed by Alex Gibney

Values and integrity matter in business.  If you don’t think this statement is true, check out the story of Enron as narrated in Alex Gibney’s 2005 classic.  Reliving the demise of this corporation is a stark reminder that cutthroat business causes nothing but tragedy.

Conclusion

Sometimes the best way to expand knowledge about business is by learning from other people’s examples.  And what better way to do this than with a vivid documentary or biopic.  Even if you don’t end up learning much from the movie, you’ll certainly enjoy the drama of what other people have been through on the road to success.
