3 Core Practices Guaranteed to Enhance Your Follow-Through

What are the core considerations in developmentally appropriate practice?

Do you ever find yourself swimming in loose ends with your work?  Do many of the things you set out to do end up half-baked because you got sidetracked?  Such lack of follow-through is actually a problem that causes a lot of interference in people’s careers. Entrepreneur Adam Toren cautions that “An inventory of never-completed projects, initiatives and objectives doesn’t get you to success. Learning to actually finish your mission is one of the best lessons you’ll learn as an entrepreneur… sometimes you just need to focus on one task at a time to see it through to completion, or risk having many incomplete goals.”

Here are a few tips on how to practice effective follow-through as a professional:

1) Streamline Your Information Systems

Modern technology has a fancy solution for everything.  But if you aren’t surgical about the tech you rely on, it’s easy to complicate your work through elaborate procedures.  If you want to get things done, and get them done fast, concentrate on one or two technologies which work well.  Use them accordingly, and disregard the rest.

2) Work Smart

Hard work is indispensable.  But if you work so hard that you get fatigued all the time, you’ll only end up slowing down in the long run.  One of the best things you can do to improve overall productivity is to pace yourself.  Do your work in structured intervals, and then step back from it in structured intervals as well.  Give your body time to rest, and give your faculties time to reset.  This has the advantage of distributing your best effort evenly across the lifespan of a project.

3) Work with a Mission

Doing something just for the sake of doing it is very deflating.  This is why articulating a mission statement creates inspiration.  Attaching an aspirational mission to the work you do injects some motivation into your efforts.  Not only does it give you something to look forward to, but it gives you a reason to take pride in your performance along the way.

Conclusion

Whether it’s routine tasks, or big projects, one of the most consequential things you can do to turn your life into a success story – is to finish what you start.  Learn how to distribute your resources and energy in an efficient way.  Prioritize and concentrate on handling first things first.  All it takes is a little effort, focus and coordination.  If you like what you just read from our blog, you’ll love the various informative courses, workshops and events listed on our websites and social media.
